Hey Everyone!

Hi, I'm Joel Ciolek

First off, thank you for visiting my coach profile! I look forward to connecting with you as well as supporting you with your goals. I was born and raised in the Seattle, Washington area and am a recent transplant to California. I attended Heritage University to obtain my Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies and am a board certified physician assistant practicing in the field of ophthalmology. I am one of only 80 PAs practicing in this specialty.

I attribute my interest in ophthalmology to my patients and mentors. Ophthalmology patients were my first patients. Ophthalmologists were my first mentors. Through both relationships, I was able to actualize my childhood moral imagination of medicine into something real. In other words, pursuing medicine was no longer just a scholastic pursuit; I was seeing medicine in action through the eyes of patients and ophthalmologists, and this captivated not just my mind, but also my heart. It is an honor to be able to look into someone’s eyes for a living and preserve and restore someone’s vision. Our eyes are also an emotive organ; we communicate with our eyes and so I find this field to be very inviting and free of distraction. Some specific interests of mine include ocular oncology (cancer that either originates in or spreads (metastasizes) to the eye) and inherited eye conditions, such as retinitis pigmentosa.

I am thrilled to join The Posh PA team because of their consistent honest approach to mentoring YOU as a Pre-PA, PA student, or new graduate PA.

I had no PA mentors until I attended PA school. Zero. Zilch. None. Learn from my mistake and do not do this PA journey alone. I am here to help, guide, provide a listening ear and advice, and cheer YOU on in your journey to, during, and after PA school.

FUN FACTS ABOUT ME: I close every patient encounter with: “eat colorfully, exercise daily, connect with others, have fun, and worry less.” | I am an identical twin | I am obsessed with playing and watching sports (Go Seahawks!), music, concerts, learning Spanish, traveling, hiking, skiing, swimming, reading, spending time with family and friends, cooking and eating wholesome foods, minimalist and financially independent living, and much more.
